The Writer’s Block Is Back

So….Β

The dreaded writer’s block has found her way back to me. I have been sat here for a few nights writing & deleting. I haven’t had a block in quite some time, I was on a roll! I hate leaving my blog silent so thought I’d ask you lovely bloggers if you had any tips or inspiration for my mind to get working on? I would be so grateful! πŸ™‚

Love to you all.

  1. Try haiku maybe, or sound couplets – forget about meaning and focus on rhythm or sound, or both. These will limber you up. Or move to a form, like a sonnet, to get you thinking in another manner. Blocks are working from the inside out. Work from the outside in. Or is it the other way around? πŸ™‚ —–Chagall

    1. Hi Chagall,
Thank you so much for commenting! That sounds very interesting & will definitely come in handy. I will have to get some notes down tonight if I can think up something along those lines.
Haha, that sounds a lot easier actually to work from the outside in..

Thanks again & please stay in touch. I am so grateful for your help. πŸ™‚

  2. When I have writers block, I sometimes give myself some time away from what I was writing. However, other times I try to do something that stimulates my senses (such as taking a walk through the woods, swimming in the river, cooking a meal, etc) or inspires me (watching a good movie, reading a good book, helping out my younger brother). One last thing that I do is write a poem about a past experience. No matter how mundane it seems, I try to describe it as well as possible. This really helps to get my brain thinking creatively. I hope that some of those ideas might help you. πŸ™‚

    1. Hey Anna :), Thank you!! I can be so blind sometimes *slaps head* lol I always get inspiration to write when I do something like walking etc, It escaped my mind. I think it may have been from the meltdown I had last week I just feel empty.

What kind of movies do you watch for inspiration? I must look into that. I haven’t watched a good movie in ages!!

I definitely think I can write a poem about past experiences that one sounds doable tonight I think! Lets see if I can post it tomorrow πŸ˜‰ Thanks again girl, that really helped!! x

      1. I am so glad that I could help! And I can’t wait to read your poem. πŸ™‚

It is really difficult to get inspiration or to even think about how to find it when one gets stuck in a rut. Although I hate it when it happens, I have to just remind myself that it is part of life. I won’t stay there forever. But emptiness is such an awful feeling. I am sorry that you are in that place.

As far as movies go, I often watch “The Lord of the Rings” because those books are so deep and rich that they got me through many tough times. The movies are not quite the same but I still find great hope in them. Other films include a strange assortment such as “Second Hand Lions,” “The King’s Speech,” “Up,” “Les Miserable,” “Twelve Angry Men,” “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” “It’s a Wonderful,” and lots of Disney/Pixar films. Although I need to skip parts of some of them (Les Miserable and The Lord of the Rings have violence that bothers me), all of these movies really lift my spirit. πŸ™‚

  3. Ahh, hello my lovely Maria! Dreaded writer’s block. Darn thing that. 1. Sherri!!! πŸ˜€ How are you my love!?
Ahh it hasn’t cropped up for ages but decides to now ;( I have had some helpful tips so will try & get back into the rhythm of it all πŸ˜‰ Ohh no 😦 I haven’t been on here or on reader for a while! I will have a look at your posts & see what’s been going on. You know you can talk to me any time!! You can pull through, there’s always light πŸ™‚
Thank you so much for that award it really made my day! πŸ˜€

  4. Personally there are a few things that help me:

    1. Listen to music, it get’s my thought processes going and keeps me from distracting myself.
    2. Talk to friends, bouncing ideas or paragraphs off people means I can alter it till it makes sense and they can give me ideas for later paragraphs.
    3. Take a walk outside, sometimes getting away from the PC and leaving your brain to tick things over in the back of your head is better than anything else you can do.

If none of these things help then try all three at once… never done it before so don’t blame me if something explodes or you go on a posting spree.

    1. Heye Snababo,

Thanks so much for commenting on my post!
Those ideas will help I know it. I tend to listen to a certain genre of music to get me into a rhythm with a certain type of writing but where I was feeling low & lost I didn’t feel like listening to music which probably made it worse!
Haha tell you what I will try all of those tomorrow & lets hope I get a blog post up, and get back on a roll! πŸ˜‰

Thanks again, and please stay in touch!

  5. So this doesn’t help get you out of writer’s block but could help prevent it. It is a theory I have but I haven’t tested it yet. It is based off the concept of keeping children interested in games. The idea is you stop the activity the moment when the children are having the most amount of fun, because then they will want to play the game again next time. If you go past that point though, they will get bored and not want to play next time. So the theory is when you are at the height of your creativity and can keep writing, stop immediately and pick up the next day. So if you want to test this out and let me know if it works… lol. It seems like a sound theory, lol.

    1. That does sound interesting! I will give it a go for sure and let you know how I get on. πŸ™‚ Thanks for that suggestion too! I’ve had several different ideas that all will help I’m sure! πŸ™‚
